Here are a few words about the destination's historical information
Plateau of Lasithi
Over 850 meters above sea level, the quiet region of Lasithi Plateau also known as the birthplace of Zeus, is encircled by the majestic heights of the Dikti Mountains.
There are around 18 separate traditional villages scattered throughout the highlands, some of which have a modest population while others are relatively forgotten.
One of Crete’s most productive areas is the plateau that stretches out at the base of the mountain range.
Some of the crops grown in the region include potatoes, apples, and even grapes.
Cave of Zeus
The cave has a height of over 1025 meters and a length of more than 2200 meters.
Although entering Psychro Cave’s also known as Zeus’s Cave, the interior is rather simple, getting there can be a bit of a difficult hike—certainly not one that is simple during the hottest parts of the summer.
A wonderful option is to visit the renowned cave very early in the day and then travel to the other sights you may check out in the plateau since the famous cave is typically filled with tourists during the summer.
Chersonissos Bay City
Near Heraklion area you can’t miss visiting Hersonissos, one of the most preffered destinations for Cretan beach resorts & a top option for package vacations, nightlife, traditional tavernas, and a gorgeous, unpolluted sea.
A never-ending row of restaurants and gift stores flank the contemporary seashore, adding even more life and color to the community.
While parts of its ruins are still visible in certain locations underwater, the new port of Hersonissos was constructed over an old Roman seaport.
While lengthy evenings may be enjoyed at one of the numerous beach bars along the coast, the port area is popular among tourists during the hours just after sunset.T
ake a look at Hersonissos if you’re considering taking a vacation in Crete.
Panagia Kera Monastery
In a woody location of the North Dikti Range, 50 kilometers southeast of Heraklion, near to the road leading to the Plateau of Lassithi, is where you’ll find the Monastery of Kera Kardiotissa.
The surrounding communities of Kera and Ano Kera Kera have been named after this old monastery.
Its founding date is not known with certainty.
The miraculous Mary image from which the monastery derives its name (Kera, which means Our Lady) and which is currently housed at Rome’s Church of San Alfonso is thought to have played a role in the monastery’s founding.
In addition, the icon was taken from a wine merchant during the Venetian Period and transported to Rome, where it is being kept today.
The icon was changed in 1735 for another one that is likewise regarded as miraculous.
Due to its protected location, the monastery of Kera functioned as the local province’s revolutionary hub throughout the Cretan uprisings. As a result, it was frequently attacked by Turks.
Visit Kera, which is still in use as a nunnery today. It’s especially worthwhile if you combine it with a trip to the Lassithi Plateau.
Picturesque Villages
The size of the environment also makes it possible to go to traditional Cretan villages in the interior.
The real heart of Crete lies in its remote, rural towns, which are unaffected by mass tourism industry.
We constantly welcome visitors and travelers.
The Cretan style of life is one that values and appreciates hospitality.
Malia Town
Along the route to Agios Nikolaos, Malia is situated 37 kilometers to the east of Heraklion.
The ancient Malia near the base of Mount Selena and the modern section along the coast appear to be separated by the major road.
Malia is a fascinating town and unique compared to other towns of Crete.
It was formerly renowned for its delicious potatoes.
But when tourism increased in Crete, hotels of all sizes, wine bars, and taverns began to replace the potato fields in Malia.
